Driving in Damascus is not easy due to the fact

that Syrian has their own way of driving and the lack of understanding what traffic signs mean!! Because much of the Old City is closed to car traffic, walking is your best option. Most sights are in a compact area, so take your time and stroll around making frequent stops to shop or relax in a coffeehouse. The city centre of new Damascus is an easy one to walk about. The streets are quite wide and traffic not as chaotic

and heavy like other Arabian Capitals . There are no crosswalks and very few lights in Syria so you pretty much just have to jay walk when you get the chance.

Rush Hours: the rush hour when the dense traffic becomes is from 09:00 AM till 13:30 PM and from 15:30 till 16:30 and in the afternoon from 19:30 till 21:30

on Thursdays, the traffic prolongs almost for all the day

Parking: Parking in center of Damascus is difficult. few parking

stations are available and payment is done to the guards directly. Most local restaurants offer free parking for their guests but the guardian who park the car and wash it, expects a tip
